"Nicholas Notes" Opinion: --  an new series......

A very long time ago I was lucky enough to experience an incident that provoked my wise Grandfather to inform me that “every black cloud has a silver lining“. And yes I believed him.

I have a very inquisitive mind and like to read a lot of informative material and this has led me to read material that most folk avoid because of its rather doomsday nature. This meets with responses that are more often than not rather negative -- eg “ I don’t want to know about any of that” etc -- and fair enough.

Over the years I’ve given this a lot of thought. I‘m not a pessimist by a long shot - quite the opposite; I believe we should be informed - we are hoodwinked over so many matters. Those in powers do not want us to be informed - it is not to their advantage to have us all aware of their plans for our ‘wellbeing’.

However being informed is one thing - but we do not need this to be invasive into our personal lives - that is destructive and not in the interest of the long term picture. It is something that occurs as we become older - we have had more of life lessons so have a better understanding of the consequences of actions - unlike younger people, we can untangle the results of actions before they occur. As we watch them live through these, we can cringe at the memories of our own responses to our elders and realise that yes we were the same - our elders were viewed as out of date, no longer prepared to move with the times - but nothing has changed really - just the spots.

So enjoy each day for what it is NOW. Tomorrow won’t be the same but something will be good in it. I follow this with my life and have for quite some years - and although I believe that knowledge is very empowering and I read all sorts of rather depressing literature I do not let it depress me - that to me would be very counterproductive. There are lots of wonderful things happening around us and we should be happy and cheerful - love and laughter go a long way.
