Existential press - what does this mean??
re GE
In the matter of GE food, I am specifically concerned about two things.
One; is that four international enterprises seem to be trying to ‘corner the market’ in food supply; and the other is the risk of breeding super weeds and super insects, just as we have bred super disease organisms which make it risky to go into hospital.
The big four food companies have arranged a beautifully contrived ‘catch 22' :
“We’ll sell you seeds that are resistant to out herbicides so, spray away to your heart’s content."
“But what if your plants inter breed with weeds? We’ll have super weeds!”
“Not a problem. We’ve been very responsible here; we’ve put terminator genes in the seeds so they can’t breed.”
“But that means I can’t keep the seed from my best plants for next year’s crop.”
“Well yes, but we can’t risk breeding superweeds now can we?”
“I’ll just keep using my old seeds thanks.”
“Fine! But we would warn you that as your neighbours are all using our seeds, they’ll be spraying with our herbicide, and your seeds aren’t resistant are they.”
“Okay, I’ll buy your seeds.”
“Very wise. And how much of our herbicide would you like…?”
