We get requests
like this frequently. We suspect a scam immediately by the spelling
and the unusual payment arrangements, and just bin them.
We had a different one recently. A request for accommodation from a
reservation service for someone coming to a Christian conference in
Wellington next January, and we told them we were not available the night
requested. We gave them alternate accommodation suggestions but they wrote
back and asked what dates we were free so they could change the conference
dates to suit us. It was a yahoo. com. address and I wrote back that we were
booked all of January. It had to be a scam about to unfold. The spelling was
fine in this case but as we only have one bedroom we 'smelt a rat'. |

Thank you for your message and warning
about this scam. I received a request the same as the one I viewed on
Village Press. I suspected that it was not genuine and deleted it, but I
know of one operator in our area Tairua who I heard, had accepted the
booking. I will forward your e-mail to them as a warning.
Many thanks for "putting out the word" |

I too have thwarted off similar
scammers - names Edy Hartano (Bali travel agent) and client Liat Bonge (said
he was from Tokyo). They requested accommodation to value of approx $2500.
We were suspicious as we were requested to remit commission to agent (10%)
in Bali. Notified my bank. Told them both I knew they were cons and said NZ
Police were on to them (white lie!) Never heard back - odd that! |
Of
course, these names will be unrelated to the real people behind the emails.
