LATEST UPDATE: Aug 24, 2009

Scammer "Mike Ellis" up to tricks again ..

or is "he" just another name for the same 'gang'

... Brazillian B&B proprietor wrote...

Hello.

I have received various emails (as I confirmed their reservation) from the ´newly ordained Greek priests´ below.....asking for accommodation in our B&B in the Amazon.

I did send them my details (name, phone, address), so, I would like to know what do they do with this information, and what I should do now.

We used to have a B&B in Manaus, Amazon - Brazil.  As I explained below to ´him´, we closed down a couple of yrs ago.  But I always try to accommodate whoever writes to this email requesting a place to stay in Manaus, finding them safe, clean, and pleasant accommodation, besides other travel services (on this last case, renting a van with driver and a boat tour thru the amazon).

This is really sad.   and I only found out by accident.  I had copied and pasted the names of the priests to send to the other guest house to make the reservations, when accidentally, I pasted the info in the Google search slot....and hit enter just because it was already there!!!

Well, I would like to prevent others from going thru the same thing, so here are the emails sent to our B&B Amazonas:

Kind regards,

Tania Manickchand

Scammer gives address as Mike Mr Ellis <mrellis_mk600@yahoo.com.hk>

Editor: Thanks for your help to others Tania.  You ask about information you have given this creep -- it may well be a group involved of course. The last time we heard this name, it was to someone in NZ -- I don't think that giving address is in anyway likely to be of interest to him/them -- they are 'scammers' not thieves. You may well receive similar scams under different names.  In each case we suggest your Google the name and/or check on our site. I don't think anyone gets 'caught' twice - you will be 'awake' to the possibilities.  In the Farmstay we run in New Zealand, we always ask for home phone number including the Country -- using SKYPE if we have any doubts.  And we do not run our email address as text - always as a pictorial image which "Rogue Search Engines" can't read.
Anyone else with useful ideas?

Good day,

Thanks for your reply. I am glad to tell you that cost and conditions are acceptable by the delegates and as such willing to make a deposit payment immediately. Due to there acceptance and willingness to stay in your facility, I have concluded payment with them also.

A credit card detail would be sent to you when I receive your confirmatory mail so that you would charge, a part payment of 50% deposit as agreed/authorized by the delegates. This is to enable you secure the rooms for the period of time they would want to stay in your facility.

Furthermore, I have been instructed to pay for your accommodation, car hiring, other necessary travel arrangements and provision of a language translator whom would be able to translate every language word to them because they are Greeks. I have arranged this with a linguist who is willing to undertake these responsibilities on there behalf... He would be with them throughout the stay with you. He would also hire a coaster bus for there movement in and around your city.

Sequel to this, once you receive the credit card details, you would be authorized to charge a total of $7850 from plus your 50% for your services and send the balance of $7850 to the translator to enable her take care of some of our other travel logistics and also hire a Costar bus for them to easy their movement on time.

You are advised to charge the credit card because the instructor do not have a credit card charging facility to put through these charge on the credit card. His account does not support it.
Owing to this, pls confirm this directives and provide me with your

Hello Mr. Ellis

unfortunately, due to my father´s health problems, we had to resume our B&B activities.

I am living in Sao Paulo now, but I have asked my mother, who lives in Manaus, to check with a different place.  I know they are clean, in a good location, and not expensive.  Also, I think they charge R$140/for a double room/day, and R$170 for a triple room/day.  In dollars would be more or less $65 and $80 - breakfast and internet included.  She will return with a confirmation about the price and availability this afternoon.  Would you consider 2 triple rooms or do you prefer 3 doubles?

About the transfer from airport to guest house, do you prefer to catch a taxi, or 2 private cars? The second option (with my family) would be US$25/each car.  I am not sure how much the taxi would cost, but I think it would be about US$20/per car.

I hope I could help a little.  Feel free to ask anything else.

Regards,
Tania
