Why David Hay will stand for
Rodney first
got involved in politics in my early twenties, when I lived in Australia
for a few years and got involved in community access radio (2RSR fm: Radio
Skid Row - the Voice of the dispossessed!)
After returning to New Zealand in the mid-1980’s I worked for the NZ Maori
Council on broadcasting issues, including the Waitangi Tribunal claim on the
airwaves and the “Broadcasting Assets” case.
I then studied for a BCom/BA in economics and politics at Auckland. I then
did a Masters in Public Policy at Victoria (my thesis was on broadcasting
policy). I’ve spent most of the past 12 years doing contract and project
work in government - at Inland Revenue, Department of Internal Affairs,
Department for Courts, Treasury, Ministry of Health, CYFS and at Auckland
and Manukau City Councils.
You can find out more about me, including a full CV, from my website:

I’ve been a member of the Greens for a few
years now, but kept quiet for professional reasons. In the past year I have
become increasingly concerned about the twin threats of oil depletion and
climate change: I don’t think New Zealand has grasped the importance and
urgency of these issues. It is out of a sense of urgency and the need for
immediate action that I have become active in the party and decided to stand
for Parliament.
I am now an Auckland province policy networker and convener of the
Broadcasting issue group, which is about to start work on developing the
Greens’ media policy.
I want to stand for the Greens in Rodney because my great-great-grandfather
had a farm at the mouth of the Weiti River (where Stillwater is now). I’ve
been going there all my life; man and boy, and have a passion to preserve
the natural beauty and tranquility of the area. |
