KAIPARA BIODYNAMIC
GROUP REPORT
Newsletter 35 - November 2008
Now for the last months of this year……..as no one was keen on
a “Weekend Away”, this has been replaced by DIY individual visits to
your local Farmers Market. Consider your Christmas shopping list and
endeavour to buy locally. Most Farmers Markets have Olive Oils, Nuts,
Cheese, Plants, Hand crèmes etc. Check out the various Markets on the Web,
quite a number have their own sites and you may be tempted further afield.
I have recently visited the Clevedon Sunday Market and what a crowd, even
though it was raining quite heavily. Intend to visit Oratia one Saturday
morning and of course Orewa, being it’s my local!
Here we are with the last Newsletter for this year. So
it’s that time of the year for Subs and “wish list” for next year. Please
fill in the Membership Form, indicate your preferences and ideas of what to
do next year and post back to Sandie, together with your $10.00 sub ten days
or so before the meeting to allow time to collate all your ideas!!
August meeting we
made Tree Paste at Christine and Peter Bodley’s, however as it was hosing
down we didn’t get to apply any. Hope those who took some home had time to
apply in better weather.
September was our
Stall at “Just Gardening” Kumeu. This was well patronized and my very
sincere thanks to those Members who came to help “hold the fort”. Being
able to have a presence at shows like that is important to spread the
“Biodynamic” word – for the most part, people I spoke with were very
receptive.
October we lifted
the Cow Horns and this was a bit of a disappointment as the manure had
failed to “turn”, we reburied them and will check again. On a more positive
note we used the Stirring Machine and spread BD500 over all of Antara, with
the residue being taken home by various members to apply to their own veggie
plots.

If you are a subscriber to Organic NZ you may have
read an article in the November/December issue about Kefir and
wondered about a source – I noticed Stella Christoffersen (Running Brook
Seeds) had this on her Stall at Clevedon Farmers Market, she also had a Sour
Dough Bread Starter…amazing what you will find at these Markets – so think
local this Christmas, you never know what you might find.
The usual 10.30 for 11am, bring Festive Food for
shared Lunch and lots of ideas to get a programme together for next year.
