Maths Week intends to encourage numerical proficiency in the same way as the teaching of reading encourages literacy proficiency. Parents are encouraged to not say, "When I was at school, I ws no good at maths either"; which encourages the child to give up. The maths week site, somewhat 'dry' in its presentation, does have interesting games at http://www.nzamt.org.nz/cool.htm It is suggested that the site is visited and considered first before handing over to children.
