Two side effects of SPAM not obvious. Many of us have to be particularly careful about an effect of SPAM on whether wanted emails to us are received or bounced back or away. If you are using Clearnet for your ISP (Internet Service Provider) then your incoming emails are checked for unwanted mail which are diverted into a "SPAM" folder. This folder accumulates "unwanted" emails and holds for 30 days. The positive effect of this is that you can -- if you remember -- check to see if wanted mail is misplaced in the folder. For example if your friend refers to "Viagra" the email could be diverted -- and lost if you don't check. In the case of VillagePRESS the address is so well advertised that we receive over 100 such emails daily ! This growing heap can - well inside the 30 days of automatic retention -- completely fill the allocate space with our ISP -- and emails then are bounced back at the sender. This can cause frustration, and failure to retry -- and money and stories disappear. Clearnet do allow the disengagement of this filter -- if we want to handle the volume of rubbish received. A further problem occurs when SPAM is sent out with a return address uplifted from YOUR email address -- then all the returned emails by the Spammer go to you !! Some form of Ethical behaviour -- email politeness may be needed so that all legitimate emails are replied to as received. How do other ISPs deal with SPAM in your experience? Any thoughts, ideas ??? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
