Margaret
Golding is one of our Puhoi personalities. Never a dull moment for this
very English lady, and a lady in every sense of the word.
Her country cottage is more than just her long time dream - it became a
reality when she went for a country drive with husband Norman some 13
years ago.
|
It was love
at first sight for her - the minute she spotted the quaint Mock
Tudor Cottage, she knew she had to have it, and the Englishness of the
village was just the icing on the cake. She has not regretted her decision for a minute.
Margaret is no stranger to
country life. She was born in Worcestershire England, and is one of eight
children; she has a great affection for her father, whom she says gave her a
love of gardening.

Her first husband had a love of the soil too; together they worked
on a successful farm in Abberley.
“Life on the farm was good,”
she said, “We grew a variety of vegetables, and I loved helping to
bring in the crops. I still enjoy the garden, and most days I work at
least an hour and a half in it.”
Being part of the community for Margaret is; making all the Bohemian
dance costumes - this reporter was gob-smacked to discover she did the
very fine embroidery work free hand! No pressed on motif for this lady,
plus the beautifully knitted socks take 54 hours to complete one pair.
Well not only does Margaret make the costumes, she wears one too.
She and Norman are part of the Bohemian dance group that entertains the
tourists regularly over the year, and assists with refreshments
afterwards.
Margaret’s love of crafty things started when she was very young. Her
mother encouraged her natural talent by teaching her to knit before she even
began school.
She also assists Karen in the Library, helps with the craft groups every
Thursday afternoon, and very special for her, is making all the event
banners for the Church, quite a task too! Continued
