Dear
Reader,
Are you aware that the new Labour Government is thinking of NOT signing
(agreeing to) the new mandatory country of origin food labelling of the
Food Standards Agency Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) which is to be signed in
three day's time, on Monday 7th November
We must sign up to the Food Standards 'Country of origin labelling' agreement
with Australia.
Damn it I thought I lived in a democracy not an autocracy! The majority of Kiwis
support the move to ensure they know where their food is coming from.
As a
consumer with a young grandson I want to know where my food comes from.
And I want to buy New Zealand.
I know/believe I can trust New Zealand food, but not food from some other
countries, perhaps especially the USA, and Asia.
H5N1 bird flue is only a scare at present. At least the danger has not been
denied the way "Mad Cow" Disease was. Surely BSE was warning enough — Our
Government has a duty to protect us, and to help us protect ourselves.
To put the ideology of Free Trade ahead of our freedom to have informed choice
is perhaps yet another manifestation of Political Correctness. (conflicting with
itself yet again)
Trade is important but happiness, health and safety are more important.
This news is one day old: It comes from Associated Press

DALLAS - State researchers tracking
the herd associated with the nation's first domestic case of mad cow disease
found that most of the cattle were slaughtered before federal officials
started their inquiry and that incomplete records hampered the
investigation.
One offspring of the infected cow could not be located and might have
entered the food supply, the researchers said. However, transmission of the
disease to a cow's offspring or to people is unlikely, a U.S. Department of
Agriculture official said Wednesday. |
