Editorial Christmas 2006 Kia Ora, Is it really Christmas again? What happened to the year, 2006 isn’t it? Why is the longest part of the day always while I wait 90 seconds for “Grampsie’s sandwich” (microwaved cheese, tomato, onion). Key issues this year? Mokopuna, farmpark and publishing -- trying to 'catch up' after weeks of sickness. I need to remember that Nicholas and I are on ‘borrowed time’ – that we were so lucky to survive the car crash nearly 20 years ago (six weeks after our wedding) and not to become despondent at ‘getting old(er)’. Poor Nicholas had a massive load in Spring when I had pneumonia twice and four months mostly on my back. A month on and at least the farm workload is ‘up to date’ again. VillagePRESS is 'having a hard time' as I have yet to “get back in the swing of things”. We have an interesting proposition that needs serious consideration - but the year will change before I can do that. Microsoft have ‘pulled the plug’ on FrontPage, the program I publish all my websites on and they say they will provide an alternative in the New Year – until I know if I can adjust to it, no decisions can be made. My great support team, John H and Audrey, are having to ‘twiddle their thumbs’ meanwhile, which is something I would rather have avoided. And my friend Ross still accepts my continuous requests for computer help and is so essential to my ability to still access the Internet – I forget again and again, yet he keeps any annoyance to himself and proves a trusted friend. So have I lost interest in politics? Not really. I find that local body submissions are so complicated I can hardly understand the massive documentation myself – how does the ordinary Ratepayer ‘have a say’ in our destiny? And the Fiji situation? If Corruption is rampant in the ‘elected government’ as the military claims, how would we know? Other ‘elected governments’ decry the coup – but is it ‘undemocratic’ or another form of legitimate protest? If Helen Clark is still the ordinary citizen’s friend, there is no way anyone involved in any corruption is going to let her know. All ‘elected governments’ will stand together against moves to remove them… Complicated and activates my sceptic nature, for sure. If you want to use your computer to bring Christmas joy, Audrey can give you a wonderful connection. See WorldofWORDS My team and I wish you a peaceful and happy time over Christmas and wish you everything you seek in the new and future years.
