Existential press - what does this mean??

 Editorial Nov 2006

Kia Ora,

What a waste of time and taxpayers’ money – “Which Party overspent their election budget allocation of Taxpayers’ money?”  A “Pledge Card” that pushed Labour’s bandwagon; now to be repaid in case “Taxpayers” as “Voters” vote for some other self-aggrandising Party.

Surely a Party that “steals” (which seems to be the suggestion) a smaller sum is just as much a thief as one guilty of acquiring larger amount. And they all spent moneys that are now considered unauthorised – with waste hours of Parliament time [measured by the $thousands per hour], which could have dealt with important matters.  In reality it was all about electioneering.

 Hypocrisy.

And from Lockwood Smith, MP comes an invitation to a meeting related to the Environment speaker: Nick Smith, MP.  Of course this will not promote National policy against all others… what else?  The letter is printed on NZ Parliament letterhead and posted from Parliament and well logoed to ensure it is seen as Nation Party sponsored.  All paid for by the Taxpayer.

Did I see Lockwood blatantly berating the Labour Party over their Pledge card? But his is ‘approved spending’, eh – approved by the Taxpayers?

I am not a National or Labour Party supporter, yet I received this letter (and heaps in the past) so the mail-out has to be substantial.

What is the point of all this anyway?

Every Taxpayer should receive information from every Party to ensure they have the best possible understanding of what they are voting for – so Lockwood’s letter is acceptable.  The Pledge Card is a clear-cut statement of what the voter can measure Labour’s actual record as the term of office progresses.

It is essential that any Party representing and supported by the “Filthy Rich” tiny minority should not have a bottomless pit of PR money just to get control; with no intention to support a more equitable distribution of this rich country’s produce.  That NZ has so many poor and inadequately fed children is a fact of which we should all be ashamed.

So let’s get on with developing some form of competent governing – in which the Parties not 'in power’ make it clear which current govt actions they support and will continue to support.  Minor Parties display co-operative support now, and promote their own ‘extras’ as well.  Each Party considering themselves “opposition” wastes valuable time in ‘orchestrated demolition’.

The current conflict opposition is destructive, disgusting and brings Parliament into disrepute.  No wonder so many voters fail to see that six-figure-plus-paid-by-Taxpayer to bureaucrats who are actually running this country (down).
