I totally support the comments in VillagePRESS on road works traffic signs. There have been two other cases, fortunately recently removed, one being on the hill going south into Waiwera, the other at Hatfields Beach. In both cases there were two lanes available and suitable barriers to protect the workers but no attempt was made to cover the signs when no action was happening at night or week-ends. At a recent meeting attended by the Council Road Safety officer I raised this point and she agreed that this practice did have the effect of causing drivers to totally ignore the signs which could cost them plenty if they were caught on camera. Obviously it is common sense to obey the signs when work is in progress and also slow down when there has been an accident, too many firemen clearing up the site have been have been injured due to senseless drivers.
